Selectman Boyle pulls out of town clerk's race

PEMBROKE— Selectman Arthur Boyle has decided not to run for town clerk.
Boyle
announced his decision Tuesday night at a fundraiser for his campaign
at Oliveira's Restaurant. Instead, he endorsed Mary Ann Smith, the
assistant to the building inspector.
Boyle plans to run for re-election to his seat on the Board of Selectmen.
Boyle
said he changed his mind about the race Tuesday morning after his
daughter gave birth to a premature baby. Boyle's grandson, who was born
on Monday, will remain at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for two to
three months, he said.
Boyle said he could not commit to the
full-time clerk job given the circumstances. He said he hopes to
continue his part-time position as selectman.
“Family comes before politics,” he said. “I love what I do (as a selectman) and I'm happy to do it for three more years.”
Boyle said about 100 people turned out for the event.
Boyle said the money raised at the fundraiser will go toward his campaign for selectman.
“Nobody asked for their money back. It was really well received,” he
said. “I want to stay involved. Selectman is part time, and I can do
that.”
